Spray fans and spray cooling systems bring coolness to Qingdao Expo
After six days of manned trial operation, the Qingdao Expo has entered its "closed phase." Yesterday, the Expo park saw fewer bustling visitors and more busy staff members. Volunteers continued to familiarize themselves with the park, learning the layout of surrounding public facilities, while service personnel underwent concentrated training to memorize tourist routes that cater to different groups of people. Outside the park, traffic connection plans were still being adjusted. During a visit to the park, reporters saw many spray fans installed at the canopies of entrances 2, 3, and 5, as well as along Flower Avenue. When the summer sun is at its peak, these spray fans will automatically release a fine mist to cool off visitors.
Mist Won't Wet Visitors' Clothes
During the Shanghai World Expo, spray fans that released cooling mist demonstrated their effectiveness to visitors. Around 70 spray fans were installed in the waiting areas at the Changqing entrance, which helped cool the air and were also used for other purposes. For instance, mist was applied to create cloud-like water droplets in the Meteorological Pavilion, as well as in the Qianjiang Tide of the Zhejiang Pavilion. Other pavilions such as those of Korea, Aviation, Major Enterprises, General Motors, Vanke, and Expo Park also used misting systems. At the Qingdao Expo, similar spray fans will provide a comfortable experience for visitors during hot weather.
"The waiting canopies at the visitor entrances will be the first place where large crowds gather. When the summer sun is intense, the temperature under the canopy can rise sharply, and with so many people waiting, visitors can become irritable. The misting system here has 8,000 spray nozzles that automatically release mist based on temperature and humidity, cooling the waiting areas for visitors," explained a staff member. The mist released by the system evaporates into very fine particles, so it won't wet visitors' clothes or cause discomfort.
Misting Cooling Fan System Automatically Starts in Direct Sunlight
In summer, when these misting cooling fan systems are activated, they can lower the temperature by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius. The misting units are equipped with temperature regulation features. When the temperature exceeds 27°C for 10 minutes or the humidity drops below 70%, the misting system will automatically activate. Once the temperature drops below 25°C or the humidity exceeds 80% or the wind speed increases, the system will shut off automatically. These devices are highly sensitive: if they detect rainfall, they immediately stop, and when they sense excessive sunlight, they will automatically activate.
Misting Cooling Fans Installed Above the Colorful Ribbon Walkway
In addition to providing a cool experience for visitors, misting fans have also been installed above the colorful ribbon pedestrian walkway along Flower Avenue. The system helps trap dust particles in the air, preventing them from being lifted. It also ensures proper air humidity and increases the concentration of negative oxygen ions. In the colorful ribbon area of the park, 13 main misting units and 591 terminal misting devices have been installed. Additionally, 40 mobile spray units will be deployed in high-traffic areas where cooling is needed.
